ST. GEORGE, UT

FEBRUARY 2018

"The ground hog saw his shadow...6 more weeks of winter!" my friends all proclaimed. In my head I thought "6 MORE weeks of winter?! It hasn't started!". I've found myself getting more cynical about this seasons snow conditions. It's February, and we haven't had snow in a few weeks.

So, I went into my storage and found some shorts, tank tops, and sandals and packed my duffle bag with ropes and chalk and headed south with a friend of mine to climb in St. George. If it isn't going to snow, and if it continues to melt the ice for ice climbing...we can just adjust early to summer conditions and go climb.

St. George is a MECCA for rock climbing and bouldering. My friend lives there in the summer, and we met up with a rad crew of climbers. It was SO AWESOME to get into the desert and climb pitches that were challenging for me. Truefully, I'm not the best boulder-er. A V3 in a gym is a challenge for me. So when I met up with this crew of climbers who were all pushing V8's - V11's...I was a little out of my comfort zone.

I tried pitches I would never try, fell A LOT, and pushed myself and learned a thing or two, and consumed a decent amount of beer.

I walked away from this trip full of new friendships, gratitude, bloody hands, and filled with happiness.
